Congratulations Mia! Our mascot competition winner!

Today we can finally announce the winner of our Play on Pedals mascot competition….

Last month, we short-listed 13 amazing finalist drawings from around Scotland, including as far away as Shetland. A panel of judges, including Joe Ray from the People’s Postcode Lottery and members of our stakeholders group, chose their favourite drawing from the 13 selected.

Seven year old Mia from Bridge of Allan primary, came out a clear winner with her magnificent ‘Wee McWheelie’ character. Here he is, looking splendid:

The judges were very impressed with Wee McWheelie and could imagine him coming to life and helping children learn how to ride a bike, here are some of the judges comments:

‘I like that the bike is personified – it looks really creative and exciting’

‘I would love to see Clyde travelling around Glasgow on Wee McWheelie’

‘Wee McWheelie really stood out as being all Scottish with the clever use of tartan trim, the Saltire wheels. I could just imagine McWheelie being developed into a cartoon for children to promote all aspects of cycling fun to cycle safety across Scotland.’

As a prize, Mia has won a recycled bike from the Bike Station plus a good bag with stickers, badges, bike lights and a Play on Pedals t-shirt.

Wee McWheelie has now been transformed into our official logo with some finishing touches from illustrator Laurie Stansfield. We hope you like him!
